This Mother’s Day I wanted to showcase some of our AMAZING Mummas of the bush! Without the women and mothers in the bush, we wouldn’t get fed and watered, we wouldn’t have clean undies in the drawer, we wouldn’t make the school bus in time and we definitely wouldn’t make Saturday sport!
So, I hope you enjoy reading up about these amazing Mummas in our community, via a three-part series in The Saltbush Journal:
- This write up, Real Bush Mums - Meet Samantha Coote (pregnant mumma)
- Real Bush Mums - Meet Amy Fay (girl mumma - kids under 5)
- Real Bush Mums - Meet Sarah Houston (boy mumma – kids at school)
Have a read of all three or pick whatever stage of mum life you might be at, because there is normally someone else out there in the Saltbush community going through a similar journey with you.
And remember…wish yourself Happy Mother’s Day! Because we are all KICK ASS!
Big love. Em xx
Name and location:
Hi I’m Sam and I’m from Newcastle, NSW, but originally from Orange, NSW.
Journey so far in becoming a Mumma?
No one or nothing can prepare you for pregnancy/motherhood! Til week 16 it was all-day morning sickness now just all the fun aches and pains – and AMAZING kicks!!
Best gift you could get for Mother’s Day?
Sleep – on my belly haha I feel like my body is preparing me for those midnight feeds already!

Best part of being a pregnant Mumma?
Finally being pregnant after a year of trying with 3 losses – I have never felt so blessed!! All the kicks and movements and excitement that comes with bringing the first baby/grandchild/great grandchild into my family!
Hardest part of being a pregnant Mumma?
The sickness, tiredness, aches and pains!
If you had no baby on board for a weekend, what would you do?
The same what I am doing – going to a ball back home in Orange (but with lots of champagne).
Has Saltbush Stretch helped in any way through your motherhood journey?
Hugely – I was getting horrible back and pelvic pain before I started this which is no longer existent – Em always seems to finish each session with a message that I need to hear!
Favourite yoga prop whilst being pregnant?
Yoga blocks!!
Favourite bump-friendly activewear?
Surprisingly Target! Super comfy and affordable!

Advice you could give to another Saltbush Mumma out there who might be struggling?
It’s okay to want your old/life body back! Something I tell myself every day! But to little life inside you or that you have created you are everything! So, look after yourself – whatever makes you a better mum do that!
Drink of choice (at smoko time and when you aren’t pregnant go to sleep)?
Love an iced long black SO much!! Even in Winter!!
Favourite quote?
Storms don’t last forever.
A little message from Em…also a Saltbush Mumma in the bush…
As a mumma myself, I know first hand about physical and emotional changes we go through during pregnancy.
I was lucky enough during (most) of my pregnancy to be able to practice yoga. I wanted to feel strong not only physically but mentally as well.
Though each trimester the body goes through such big changes, so the Saltbush Mumma Pre and Post Natal program was designed to empower you through all of these stages.
Are you a pregnant mumma or know of a bush mumma to be? I’d love to help support you through your pregnancy journey. Or flick me a message if you have any questions.
